Queues for food reach 2km in London

Why was it left to a Russian TV station to document this shameful state of affairs in our country?

Footage shot by RT of hungry people queueing for 2km outside a food bank in northwest London has gone viral, offering a shocking illustration of just how desperate life has become for more and more workers struggling to get food on the table.

Older readers will remember the shock-horror headlines in the western media telling wildly exaggerated tales about everyone having to queue for hours in socialist countries like the Soviet Union for bread and other basic necessities.

The reality back then was that, whilst there might be occasional hiccups in distribution, nobody starved under socialism. In fact, food was heavily subsidised. Moreover, nobody was homeless, or unemployed, or lacking in access to healthcare, education, pensions, community facilities, cultural activities, public transport, or any of the other essentials for a decent life.

Right now here in Britain, however, in one of the wealthiest capitalist countries on earth, whose super-rich rulers have amassed so much capital they literally don’t know what to do with it, thousands of workers are driven to queue out on the street in a desperate attempt to keep hunger from the door.

It is revealing that it was left to a Russian film crew to document the real scale of the distress, with our own media preferring to pump out the lie that the crisis is proving that ‘we are all in this together’.
